Don't Miss the Greatest Miracle

Many people spend their lives chasing miracles.

They go from conference to conference, church to church, ministry to ministry, looking for the next supernatural experience. And while God certainly performs miracles, we must be careful not to mistake the miraculous for spiritual maturity.

There is a mindset that has quietly crept into parts of the Church that says, "If something miraculous isn't happening, God must not be moving."

But Scripture paints a different picture.

Some of God's greatest works happen where no crowd gathers, no headlines are written, and no dramatic manifestation is seen.

They happen in the human heart.

A Sobering Warning

Jesus gave one of the most sobering warnings in all of Scripture:

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."— Matthew 7:22-23 (KJV)

Think about that for a moment.

These were not people claiming to have done nothing.

They pointed to miracles.

They pointed to deliverance.

They pointed to supernatural works.

Yet Jesus did not point back to their accomplishments. He pointed to relationship.

The issue was not whether something miraculous had happened.

The issue was whether they truly knew Him and were being transformed by Him.

Miracles Can Be Misunderstood

The enemy is a deceiver.

His goal has always been to distract people from the truth. Sometimes that deception comes through obvious sin. Other times it comes through misplaced priorities.

If the enemy can keep someone constantly chasing experiences while neglecting obedience, repentance, and relationship with God, he has already accomplished much of what he intended.

That does not mean miracles are bad.

Far from it.

God still heals.

God still delivers.

God still answers prayer.

God still does the impossible.

But miracles were never intended to become the destination.

They were meant to point us toward God.

Signs Follow Believers

The Bible teaches that signs follow believers. Throughout the book of Acts, we see miracles confirming the message of the Gospel.

But notice the pattern.

The focus was never on collecting experiences.

The focus was always on Christ.

Today, many believers spend more time seeking manifestations than seeking transformation.

We want the breakthrough.

We want the encounter.

We want the experience.

But do we want the refining?

Do we want the correction?

Do we want the surrender that comes with following Jesus?

A person can witness miracles and still refuse to change.

A person can attend every revival meeting and still struggle with pride, unforgiveness, and disobedience.

Experiences alone do not produce maturity.

Transformation does.

The Miracle We Often Miss

Perhaps the greatest miracle is not what happens around us.

Perhaps it is what happens within us.

When a heart full of bitterness learns to forgive, that is a miracle.

When a life bound by sin is set free, that is a miracle.

When a selfish person learns to love others, that is a miracle.

When pride gives way to humility and rebellion gives way to obedience, that is the work of God.

These miracles may not draw crowds, but they reveal the power of God just as surely as any healing service ever could.

In fact, they reveal something even deeper.

They reveal that a person is becoming more like Christ.

Seek the Giver, Not Just the Gifts

There is nothing wrong with praying for miracles.

We should pray for healing.

We should believe God for the impossible.

We should celebrate every testimony of His power.

But we should never become so focused on the gifts that we lose sight of the Giver.

The greatest miracle is not merely that someone was healed.

The greatest miracle is that a sinner becomes a child of God.

The greatest miracle is that a life is transformed by the presence of Jesus Christ.

So seek Him.

Pursue relationship with Him.

Allow Him to change you from the inside out.

Because if all you chase is the miraculous, you may miss the greatest miracle of all:

A transformed life that truly knows Him.
