Honor Reveals Purpose

In today's culture, honor is often misunderstood. Many people associate honor with respect that must be earned, status that must be achieved, or recognition that must be deserved. Yet throughout Scripture, honor is presented as something much deeper. Honor is a Kingdom principle that shapes how we see God, how we see others, and even how we see ourselves.

In many ways, honor reveals purpose.

The reason so many people struggle to understand worship, prayer, identity, service, and love is because they have never fully understood honor.

Honor Helps Us Understand Worship

Why do Christians worship?

To many people, worship appears to be singing songs before a sermon. Some see it as a tradition or religious ritual. But worship is far more than music.

Worship is the response of a heart that recognizes the worth of God.

When we honor God for who He is—Creator, Savior, King, Redeemer, and Father—worship becomes natural. Honor allows us to see His greatness, and worship becomes our response to that revelation.

The more we honor God, the more we understand why worship matters.

Honor Helps Us Understand Prayer

Prayer is often viewed as a way to ask God for things. While God certainly invites us to bring our requests before Him, prayer is much more than a spiritual wish list.

Prayer is relationship.

Prayer is access.

Prayer is communion with the King of Kings.

When honor is present, prayer stops being a duty and becomes a privilege. Honor recognizes who God is and causes us to desire His presence.

We pray because we honor Him.

We seek Him because we value Him.

Honor Helps Us Love People

One of the greatest challenges in the Christian life is loving difficult people.

It's easy to love those who agree with us, encourage us, and treat us well. It is much harder to love those who hurt us, disappoint us, or seem undeserving of grace.

Yet Jesus calls us to love even our enemies.

How is that possible?

Honor.

The Kingdom teaches us that every person has value because they were created in the image of God. Honor allows us to see beyond behavior and recognize the worth God has placed on a person.

This does not mean we ignore sin, enable destructive behavior, or abandon truth. Biblical honor never requires compromise.

Instead, honor allows us to speak truth in love because we care about a person's eternity.

Honor Helps Us Understand Our Identity

Many believers struggle with insecurity, shame, condemnation, and doubt.

They know what God says in Scripture, yet they have difficulty believing it applies to them.

Why?

Because identity is connected to honor.

When we honor God's Word, we begin to trust His opinion above our own feelings. We begin to believe what He says about us more than what our past says about us.

Honor receives truth.

Honor accepts correction.

Honor embraces God's calling.

Honor believes that God sees more in us than we currently see in ourselves.

When we honor His voice, our identity becomes clear.

Honor reveals the purpose behind who we are.

Honor Unlocks Understanding

Without honor, many aspects of the Christian life seem confusing.

People ask:

• Why should I worship?

• Why should I pray?

• Why should I forgive?

• Why should I serve?

• Why should I love difficult people?

• Why should I submit to God's ways?

Honor answers those questions.

Honor helps us recognize value.

Honor helps us recognize authority.

Honor helps us recognize purpose.

When honor is absent, purpose becomes blurry. When honor is present, purpose becomes clear.

Perhaps this is why Scripture repeatedly commands us to honor God, honor one another, honor our parents, honor spiritual leaders, and honor those around us.

Honor is not simply good manners.

Honor is a Kingdom perspective.

It is seeing things as God sees them.

Honor Reveals Purpose

When honor is restored, worship becomes meaningful.

When honor is restored, prayer becomes personal.

When honor is restored, love becomes possible.

When honor is restored, identity becomes secure.

Honor is not the destination of the Christian life.

It is often the doorway through which we begin to understand it.

Honor reveals purpose because honor teaches us to recognize value. And when we recognize value, we begin to understand why God calls us to live the way He does.

May we become people who honor God above all else, honor others as image-bearers of Christ, and honor the calling God has placed upon our own lives.

Because when honor is present, purpose is revealed.
