Why Believers Are Being Mocked Right Now — And Why It Should Strengthen Your Faith

There is something happening right now that many believers are feeling.
Mockery.
It’s coming from all directions—From atheists, from other religions, even from those who claim to follow Christ but live lukewarm lives.
And if we’re not grounded in truth, it can feel discouraging. It can feel confusing. It can even make us question whether we’re doing something wrong.
But Scripture is clear:
This is not a sign that something is wrong. It’s a sign that something is right.
Jesus Told Us This Would Happen
Before we ever experienced rejection, Jesus warned us about it.
In John 15:18–20 (NKJV), He said:
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you… If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.”
This is not optional Christianity. This is not rare Christianity.
This is normal Christianity.
Paul reinforces this in 2 Timothy 3:12:
“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
Not some. Not a few.
All.
So when you experience resistance, rejection, or ridicule—it is not evidence that you’re failing.
It’s evidence that you’re walking in truth.
Why Do People Mock Believers?
Mockery is rarely about intelligence, logic, or truth.
It’s about exposure.
Jesus reveals this in John 3:19–20:
“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light… For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
When you walk in Christ, you carry light.
And light does something powerful:
It exposes what people don’t want to face.
You don’t even have to speak sometimes. Your life alone becomes a conviction.
The Psychological Side of Mockery
Even outside of Scripture, we see this truth confirmed.
When people feel conviction but refuse to change, they experience internal tension.
Instead of surrendering, many respond by:
Attacking the truth
Mocking what convicts them
Dismissing what exposes them
This is not always hatred.
Often, it is fear.
Fear of being wrong. Fear of surrender. Fear of losing control.
So instead of dealing with that fear, they redirect it toward you.
Even Lukewarm Believers Will Push Back
This is one of the hardest truths to accept.
Not all mockery comes from outside the Church.
Some of it comes from within.
Why?
Because truth confronts comfort.
In Revelation 3:16, Jesus warns about lukewarm faith:
“Because you are lukewarm… I will vomit you out of My mouth.”
When believers choose comfort over conviction, they often resist those who are pursuing holiness.
Not because you’re wrong—but because your obedience challenges their compromise.
Our Response Matters
Here’s where we must be careful.
We are not called to respond with pride. We are not called to respond with arrogance. We are not called to fight mockery with mockery.
We are called to respond like Christ.
With truth. With love. With unwavering conviction.
1 Peter 3:15 reminds us:
“Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense… with meekness and fear.”
Strength and humility can exist together.
Rejoice—Because This Confirms Who You Belong To
This is where everything shifts.
Jesus doesn’t just tell us to endure persecution.
He tells us to rejoice.
In Matthew 5:11–12, He says:
“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you… Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven.”
Why rejoice?
Because it confirms something eternal:
You are aligned with Him.
If the world accepted you completely, it would mean you look too much like it.
But when you stand in truth, you will stand apart.
This Is a Time to Stand Firm
We are living in a time where lukewarm faith will not hold.
Comfort-based Christianity will not survive pressure.
Only those rooted in Christ will stand.
So if you are being mocked right now…
Don’t shrink back. Don’t compromise. Don’t water down the truth.
Lift your head.
Stand firm.
Because you are not losing.
You are being refined. You are being marked. You are being strengthened.
Final Encouragement
God is not surprised by what you are facing.
He spoke about it long before you ever experienced it.
And He has already equipped you to stand in it.
Stay in His Word. Stay in His presence. Stay grounded in truth.
Because in the end…
Those who stand with Christ now will stand with Him forever.
