Known by God: More Than Just Being Seen

There is a thought that has deeply shaped how I understand my walk with God:
God does not desire us because of who we are in our current state—He desires us because of who we are created to become in Him.
That may sound simple at first, but when you really sit with it… it changes everything.
God Has Always Known You
Scripture makes it clear that God’s knowledge of us didn’t begin at birth—it began before it.
In Jeremiah 1:5, God says:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you…”
This tells us something powerful:
God didn’t just know that you would exist—He knew who you were created to be.
There is a design. A calling. A purpose that existed before you ever took your first breath.
The Version of You God Sees
God sees beyond our current condition.
He sees the version of us that is fully surrendered, fully alive in Him, walking in His will.
The version of you:
That forgives when it’s hard
That obeys when it costs something
That trusts Him even when life doesn’t make sense
This isn’t a future God is hoping for—it’s a reality He already sees.
What Did Jesus Mean by “I Never Knew You”?
One of the most sobering statements in Scripture is found in Matthew 7:23:
“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’”
At first glance, this can seem confusing.
How could Jesus say He never knew someone… if God knows everything?
The answer lies in understanding that in Scripture, “knowing” often refers to relationship, not just awareness.
Jesus isn’t saying: "I didn’t recognize you.”
He’s saying: "We never walked together. You never entered into the life you were created for in Me.”
Living Around God vs. Walking With God
It is possible to:
Know about God
Talk about God
Even do things in His name
…without ever truly knowing Him.
The people Jesus spoke to in Matthew 7 were active. They were involved. They even pointed to what they had done.
But they missed the one thing that mattered most—relationship.
They lived around God, but never walked with Him.
Becoming Who You Were Created to Be
This is where everything shifts.
Following Jesus is not just about avoiding sin or checking spiritual boxes.
It’s about transformation.
In Ephesians 2:10, we are told:
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
God didn’t just save you from something—He saved you into something.
A life. A calling. A new identity.
The Invitation
God already knows the person He created you to be.
The question is not: "Does God know me?”
The real question is: Am I walking in the life He created me for?
Because being “known” by God isn’t about Him gaining information about you—
It’s about you stepping into relationship with Him and becoming who you were always meant to be.
Final Thought
God has always seen you.
But He is calling you deeper—into a life where you don’t just exist in His awareness…
but live in His presence.
Call to Action
Take a moment today and ask yourself:
Am I walking with God…or just living around Him?
If this spoke to you, share it with someone who needs encouragement, and stay connected with us as we continue to pursue truth together.
